Instagram

This month, Instagram provides us with a lot of news, first and foremost the introduction of teen accounts. This is a function that was created to filter the content that can be used by young people, in order to reassure parents about the presence of their children online. In this way, children under the age of 16 will have limited access to the content and accounts they can relate to, thus guaranteeing them greater security.

Another new feature is the possibility of writing public comments in the stories of one’s followers, which will be visible for 24 hours only to users in common with the account you interact with. It will also be possible to reply to messages in broadcast channels, creating active discussion spaces but without shifting the focus away from the main content.

Finally, Instagram seeks to promote more user creativity and customisation of content. First of all, it allows users to express their artistic vein even within posts thanks to drawing tools and stickers; it also allows users to tell their story in their bio not only through words and emoji, but also through the addition of a song.

WhatsApp

Implement a new feature that aims to increase user engagement: mentions in status updates. This feature, inspired by Facebook and Instagram, will allow users to tag other users and share content more interactively, while preserving the anonymity of the original author.

Threads

Increases the number of contents that can be published in a post, extending the limit to 20 items including photos and videos. This new function promotes cross-posting, as Instagram has recently introduced the same function for its carousels; this will give users more incentive to share content on both platforms.

Meta

Meta is releasing a detailed guide to making the most of Facebook and Instagram reels, called ‘Reels Performance Playbook’. It is a document consisting of about ten pages with tips and ideas on how to elevate content within the platforms.

TikTok

TikTok is testing a new function that allows users to delete a video, which has already been posted, and make changes to the clips directly from within the application. This function is only effective when videos are previously edited within the platform, so that edits can continue.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is aiming to win over Generation Z with its ‘Let’s Talk Offline’ podcast. The initiative aims to give young people a behind-the-scenes look into the world of work, addressing often unspoken topics such as the office atmosphere, pay and the difficult balance between career and private life.

Snapchat

Snapchat introduces a new way of advertising with ‘Sponsored Snaps’, which are ads that show up as messages in the chat without a push notification. Users then choose whether or not to open the message in the inbox.

Youtube

There are also some new features on YouTube. First of all, users are given the possibility to customise the Shorts thumbnail more freely with text and filters even after uploading. However, the changes do not only apply to mobile devices: YouTube is introducing off-screen advertising, a new way of advertising on Smart TVs.

X

Thanks to the latest update, X finally makes it possible to edit posted messages: a long press or selection of the three-dot menu is enough to edit the contents of a message even after it has been published. Be careful though: it is only possible to edit posts 5 times!

Spotify

Spotify revolutionises the listening experience with ‘Daylist’, a dynamic playlist that adapts to the user’s musical tastes in real time, offering a customised soundtrack for every moment of the day.

Extra news: iOS

Like any self-respecting September, news also arrives from Cupertino! Apple, with the release of the latest iPhones (and many other products), is releasing iOS 18, a new system update based on a single word: customisation. It is now possible to change the colour of the icons, their arrangement on the screens, customise the control centre to suit your needs, and much more.

The biggest news is certainly Apple Intelligence, the new artificial intelligence released by the company and not yet available in Italy: this new technology will completely revolutionise the way we experience and use all of the company’s products.
So we hope to see it here soon too!
